A Response to Flight of the Conchords
September 17, 2009 | Uncategorized | 1 Comment
In media, we watched Flight of the Conchords, a recent comedy. It subverts the usual expectations that I have when I usually turn on a sitcom. It doesn’t have the typical family/workplace structure with stereotypical characters.
After watching it, I felt a little disappointed. I don’t know whether that was because before sir turned it on, some people who had already seen it, enthused about how amazing it was and sir talked about their success on the stand-up circuit or whether the programme is genuinely that awful.
I wasn’t too enthusiastic when I heard what the programme involved - I genuinely detest musical stand-up, but I tried to watch it with an open mind. It wasn’t as intelligent as I usually like my comedy, stand-up or sitcom, and it was actually fairly badly written.
In my opinion, it isn’t really worth watching unless you like comedy you can watch fairly mindlessly. And even then, I’d suggest you watch something like Friends, Keeping up Appearances or Last of the Summer Wine. Stereotypical comedies that actually work.
To me, the best sitcoms are Curb Your Enthusiasm, Arrested Development or Seinfeld.

I’ve started my new media studies blog.
It’s named after my favourite Isaac Newton quote.
